An evacuated Bofors gun crew on Southampton quayside, 19th June 1940

A relieved-looking crew of a British 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun is seen on the quayside, Southampton Docks after their rescue from Western France. Operation Aerial, 19th June 1940.

The original caption suggests that the gun crew left England for France in September 1939. During the last 5 weeks of their time there, they accounted for 10 enemy aircraft. They were rescued from Western France aboard the Cargo Ship, Delius, during Operation Aerial, June 1940.
